The Friends of the Jesuit Church invite you to a day of culture and sports,
In the Footsteps of the Jesuits
at 9:30 a.m. at the Jesuit Church.
We will visit five churches. We’ll be welcomed at the Jesuit Church by Dany Schitter, a guide from the tourist office and the historical society, who will share the history of the Jesuits, their arrival in Molsheim, and their pastoral work.
The hike begins at 10:00 a.m. on a pleasant trail: 14 km, 180 m elevation gain; sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing are recommended; return scheduled for 5:00 p.m. - Packed lunch
Along the way, we’ll visit the Dompeter, Molsheim’s first parish church, consecrated by the Alsatian Pope Leo IX around 1049–1050,
the trail is lined with six “Fussfall” or “Kniefall” markers dating from the Jesuit era; arrival at the Church of Our Lady of Altbronn, known as
“Maria Altbronn,” around 1:00 p.m.; lunch in the church courtyard.
In the afternoon, we’ll head toward the Horn and its Sacré-Cœur to enjoy the beautiful panoramic view
with a stop at the 15th-century St. Denis Chapel in Wolxheim, before ending the day in Avolsheim,
where we’ll explore the ancient baptistery, known as St. Ulrich’s Chapel, built around the year 1000.
On the way back, we’ll follow the left bank of the Bruche; the outward journey was along the right bank. We’ll arrive at the Jesuit Church around 5:00 p.m.
